Integrative Therapeutic Counselling Advanced Diploma
This level 5 programme which leads to counsellor qualified status has been written by Reflections Counselling and Training Limited. It holds the Quality mark with AIM and holds Accredited training recognition with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
What you need to cover
This qualification is made up of a set of learning outcomes and assessment criteria that describe what you need to be able to do, and things you need to know to achieve your qualification.
The qualification consists of 8 mandatory units across the two years (4 in the first year and 4 in the second year).
Topics studied range from: Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural theories recognising how these approaches can be integrated into practice via skills work; Diversity, Culture, Equality and Legislation all form year 1. Year 2 explores: Grief and Loss; Working with Trauma related issues; Introduction to Research; Personal and Professional Development via a supervised counselling placement.
To achieve the Integrative Therapeutic Counselling Advanced Diploma (level 5) you must provide evidence to show that you meet all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria defined in the units.
Tracking your evidence
During your course your Tutor/Assessor will ask you to carry out work either in the classroom, in your supervised counselling placement, in supervision with your supervisor, which you’ll keep as evidence of your learning.
The work you produce (evidence) will be assessed by your Tutor/Assessor to make sure you’ve covered everything in sufficient detail. Your evidence could be made up of a combination of:
- assignments
- written work or class notes
- case studies
- simulated activities or role play
- individual or group power point presentations
- range of task discussion activities
- supervised practice counselling placement (end of year 1; beginning of year 2)
- other appropriate formats suggested by your Tutor/Assessor.
When all your evidence is gathered together in a file or folder, this becomes your portfolio.
How your evidence is checked
After your Tutor/Assessor has assessed your work, another member of staff, the Internal Moderator, will review it.
An External Moderator from AIM will visit this centre. The External Moderator’s role is to make sure your work has been assessed to AIM requirements. They’ll do this by checking a sample of candidates’ portfolios – which may include yours.
How you get your certificate
Once you’ve built up your portfolio of evidence and your Tutor/Assessor and the Internal and External Moderators are satisfied it meets the standards, you’ll be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling.
